The African-American culinary heritage is rich, enticing, and positively delicious. Soul Food Month is there to celebrate this long and varied tradition. It is sponsored by the Culinary Historians of Chicago, a city famous for its comfort food establishments.

The term “soul food” came into wide use in the 1960s. It started out as a pretty name for dishes which utilized poor man’s ingredients like unusual cuts of meat or unpopular vegetables. However, the inimitable African-American culinary art and knack for turning these unappealing scraps into mouth-watering hearty meals soon transformed America’s view of soul food. Once a euphemism, it is now a trademark for a dining experience with satisfaction guaranteed.

Soul Food Month also reminds us to keep traditions alive: many families celebrate with special dishes passed on over generations. Get on the soul food train and join in the culinary celebration. Feel free to extend the month – you will want to!

   Ever wondered which candy reigns supreme once and for all? Have a candy battle with friends! Here's how you do it: host a candy party where you supply all your favorite brands of candy. Have your friends show up and gorge—and the candy that gets eaten the most is the winner!

2. Make some candy sushi

   If you've been anywhere around Pinterest in the last year, you'll know delicious-looking candy sushi has been making the rounds. Long pieces of candy (like Twizzlers) substitute for the fish and vegetable strips in real sushi, while rice is replaced by Rice Krispies. It's the most delicious roll-up you've ever had!

3. DIY your favorite candy

   Take your favorite candy to a whole new level by making it yourself at home! Some great candidates to start are peanut butter cups, Kit Kats, and chocolate clusters. Flex your baking muscles, impress your friends, and have a delicious treat to boot!
